Newark Immigrant Resource Fund

New Jersey’s largest Latinx-led agency, La Casa de Don Pedro, is leading the charge in forming the Newark Immigrant Justice Collaborative with partner agencies FOCUS Hispanic Center for Community Development, Newark Emergency Services, and Ironbound Community Corporation.

The collaborative's main objective is to create a network of resources and crisis response available to New Americans and their families throughout Newark and Essex County. Plans are currently underway to create the Newark Immigrant Resource Center at 23 Broadway which will provide educational workshops and guides, basic supplies such as food and clothing, and referrals for medical care, mental health services, and more.

To prepare for the possibility of families being separated, the collaborative will be available to assist migrants in developing contingencies in the event a family member is detained and deported, which may include matters of child custody and short-term financial plans.

Another objective of the collaborative is to combat misinformation surrounding what rights immigrants have and what changes are coming. A toolkit has been created which includes a sample policy and written procedures that other agencies can adopt to protect immigrant rights at their centers, a sample incident report that staff can fill out to track encounters with ICE OR CBP, samples of court-issued judicial warrants to help identify an authentic warrant, and a ‘Know Your Rights’ informational flyer readers can refer to during an encounter with ICE.

To support our efforts, please consider making a financial contribution to the Newark Immigrant Justice Fund. Any amount helps and will ensure we can serve all who come to us in need, no matter where they came from or how they got here.
